Home preservation helps maintain the attractiveness and safety of your home through services like exterior painting, caulking, yard work, and trash removal. To qualify for this program, you must own and occupy the home where the work will be completed and have homeowners insurance for the property. Exceptions for rental properties may be considered with written permission from the property owner. To be eligible for reduced-cost services, you must meet income guidelines. To apply, request a home preservation application, complete it, and submit it either in person at the Habitat for Humanity of the Northern Flint Hills office or via email at Director@habitatflinthills.org.

  • Plumbing, electrical, heating (dependent upon funding)
  • Building additions
  • Emergency repairs
  • Large structural repair

Eligible?

Our guidelines.

  • Resident of Riley or Pottawatomie Counties for a minimum of one year
  • Owner occupied home for at least the last two years and have homeowners insurance
  • Current on your property taxes
  • Repairs are an approved type of Habitat Repair Team projects
  • Household income does not exceed our income guidelines
  • Will not sell home for at least one year

Qualified homeowners will receive a grant for a portion of the repair.

The commitment that will be required of the homeowner is 10 hours of sweat equity and then a payment that is specific to their income. 

  • Households with an annual income 30% of less of HUD AMI, program fee will be $50
  • Households with an annual income 31%-60% of HUD AMI, program fee will be $150
  • Households with an annual income 61%-80% AMI, program fee will be $250

We are looking for eager, community-minded volunteers to work on short-term projects for low-income homeowners. Exterior repairs (painting, yard clean-up, etc.) that can be done in one or two days – perfect for large groups!

Groups of five or more that would like to form their own “Team” are encouraged! Each team decides which projects to accept and how often they will participate throughout the year.

Home Repairs

Critical Home Repairs

Spread the word. We are here to help.

Critical Home Repair addresses the safety and livability concerns of the home. This includes structural modifications, roofing, HVAC, windows and doors, accessibility modifications (wheelchair ramps, handrails, and widening doorways, etc). To qualify for this program you must own and occupy the house that the work is to be done on, and have that property covered by homeowners insurance. In cases where the home is rented, exceptions may be made with written permission from the property owner. To qualify for reduced costs/financial help for this service, you must qualify as low-income per the income guidelines on the right side of this page. To apply for a critical home repair services, please ask for a home repair application, fill it out and bring it to the Habitat for Humanity of the Northern Flint Hills offices or email it to Director@habitatflinthills.org.
