What
We Do

A community working together as one for a better tomorrow.

We are an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, serving both Riley and Pottawatomie counties and Geary County on a case-by-case basis. We develop our resources and funds to build affordable housing in our area through new construction, rehabilitation, neighborhood revitalization, home repair, and affordable housing advocacy. We are an HFH Aging in Place and a Veteran’s Affiliate and address/advocate for these issues. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Making A
Change

every nail drives a change

Our
Impact

Bringing families and friends together.

Habitat homeownership contributes to healthier families, greater success in school, more economic opportunities for families, and revitalized neighborhoods. Habitat for Humanity of the Northern Flint Hills has worked with community partners for more than twenty-five years to help families on their homeownership journey. We have built over 30 homes in Riley and Pottawatomie counties and continue to grow. A home is more than four walls and a roof. It’s a place to rest, a place to learn, and a place that can shape your future.

We are driven by a simple vision; A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

No city is so well off that it can afford to squander a part of the next generation.

Introducing our new homeowner, Ashley Heidelberg!

Ashley moved to Manhattan five years ago after growing up in Erie, Penn. She resettled to Kansas due to friends in the military. As an independent parent to Justice who is 12. Ashley Heidelberg is a strong mom who is seeking a place of her own for her growing family with Habitat, as she is also 9 months pregnant, with another daughter, Sunjai.

“I was tired of the city and decided to move out to Manhattan in 2019,” Ashley says. “I had heard it was a good place to raise the kids.”

Ashley works Monday to Friday at Res Care Community Living helping young adults with special needs. “They are all smart in their own way as I work with both low and high functioning,” Ashley says. “They keep a smile on my face everyday.”

Right now, the Heidelberg family stays in an apartment in Manhattan.

“I got a letter about being a homeowner from Habitat,” Ashley says. “My cousin was part of the program back in Pennsylvania, so I wanted to try it.” Ashley used to be part of the Section 8 program, but then she earned too much.

“I don’t want to pay rent anymore when I could be getting a small house for the same amount,” she says. “I want a place that is my house!”

As a mom, she’s so proud of her daughter, Justice, who is a 5th grader at Woodrow Wilson and will be in middle school next year.

“She acts like she’s 20,” she says. “She gets anxious around big crowds. She’s a gamer with Roblox . She’s a homebody and loves to be home. She spends summers back in Penn with her grandma and great-grandma.”

The new Heidelberg baby is due in September, just in time for the experience the new home!

“It’s just me and my daughter here, and I co-parent together with her father.”

For fun, Ashley hangs out with friends, cooks and plays games. “We love to go out to eat at Longhorns,” Ashley says. “We play board games and Uno. We do karaoke a lot with the best song of ‘One Two Step’ by Ciara and Missy Elliott.”

Congratulations, Ashley!
